“Still The Atoning Blood Is Near, That Quenched The Wrath Of Hostile Heaven"

I read Ezekiel 16 yesterday.  This must be one of the most heart wrenching and stomach sickening books in the Bible, and yet its end produces such a sense of amazement in me.  Its end makes me want to fall down and worship the God of Heaven and Earth with my face to the ground.  It simply takes your breath away.

Here is the Lord.  Here are His people Israel whom He has loved and chosen not because of anything worthy in them.  Here is why they are chosen: “The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.  It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers (Deuteronomy 7:6-8)…”  Continue reading

Jesus My Saviour, My Friend, My Coming King

Who has loved me more than Jesus, when He bore my sin away?  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed my transgressions from me.  Oh what a Saviour!  Mighty Redeemer is He!  He took my shame and bore God’s wrath to set this captive free.

And now what friend do I have like Jesus, who at sun down watches over my sleep?  He keeps account of my tossings; He puts my tears in His bottle, are they not all written down?  Who knows my frame like the Lord does?  He remembers that I am but dust.  He does not keep His anger forever, or treat me as my sins deserve.  What rest I have in Jesus!  He who keeps me in the palm of His hand will never leave me or forsake me.  If I am faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

I love You so my Jesus, who hears my every prayer, who treats me with compassion, who covers me with care.  Even in the darkness His word is a lamp unto my feet and I know that He is working out His perfect will for me.

Who gives hope for the future like Jesus?  The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.  The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.  Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, but blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.

Jesus Christ, my friend and Lord, I know that He is coming swiftly.  Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay.  He who has overcome death is coming, He who destroys the power of sin is coming, and He who has loved me from the foundations of the world- He is coming.

Psalm 73:4 “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.”

Judgement Day

Some Scriptures that inspire sincere and authentic Christianity, a healthy and necessary fear of the Lord, and an examining of ones self.  No reflections from me, the scripture speaks for itself, but feel free to ask questions if anyone has any.

1Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid which is Jesus Christ.  Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.  If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.”

Matthew 7:25 “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

2Peter 3:10-12 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.  Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!”

Hebrews 4:13 “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

My World (But Not My Home)

This is my world, but it is not my home.  As if constantly walking against the rushing tide, or a fearsome rage of wind, onward I press one step at a time.  Dare I not look back at all the crowds of people, who bustle about laughing, easily carried by the wind as if it was a thrill to be tossed to and fro;  They are enemies of the cross of Christ, with minds set on the things of my world, and little do they seem to know their perilous state.

But may my eyes be fixed, steadfastly on the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Yes though it may be blurry in the distance, the rain beating wildly and gray in front of it and the devils pushing and prodding at all who walk this path; Yes, though it lies beyond a narrow gate and a restrictive road, may I fix my eyes securely on that prize!

May I not look back, lest I be found not fit for the kingdom of God, and in so looking back prove that my desires are for this world and not for Heaven with my Lord! Continue reading

Rejoice In God's Keeping Power

There are times when the Lord seems to poke and prod at the things we believe to be true.  He is able to bring all to the surface to test and see whether or not we truly do believe it, yes more so whether or not we apply it, and even beyond this:  do we love it?  Does the certain truth of God’s Word strengthen our faith?  Or is it a part of His word that we hold at bay, not truly examining it and seeking in it what precious truths there might be for us?  God, I have found, is so gracious to bring to our attention our wrong thinking about Him, about others, and about ourselves.  Because He loves us, it is His good pleasure to sanctify us by His word as stated in Christ’s own prayer “Sanctify them in your truth; your word is truth (John 17:17).”  For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29).” Continue reading

To Reconcile Our Differences

This is another addition to my introduction for “The Complex Nature Of God’s Heart For Lost People.”  I felt that I should be more upfront about what I intend to learn more about and expound upon.  Please understand that this piece is not intended to explain or go into depth about the doctrine.  It is what it is- an introduction and basis upon which to build the things that I will write later.

To Reconcile Our Differences, So That We All May Rightly and In Unity Embrace God’s Heart For Lost People. Continue reading

"Why Does This Generation Seek After A Sign?"

(preface- i wrote this a few years back so I think I was using a version of New King James).

Matthew 12:15-21 “Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there.  And many followed him, and he healed them all and ordered them not to make him known.  This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:  “Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased.  I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.  He will not quarrel or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets; a bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory; and in his name the Gentiles will hope.” Continue reading

The Parable of the Rich Fool and More

May the very words of Christ change us.

Luke 12:13-21 “Someone in the crowd said to him (Jesus), ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”  But he said to him, ‘Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?’  And he said to them, ‘Take care, and be on your gaurd against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.’  And he told them a parable saying, ‘The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’  And he said, ‘I will do this:  I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’  But God said to him, ‘Fool!  This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’  So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Why A Blog Called “Come To Christ”?

I confess, I know next to nothing about blogging.  But I do love to write.  I love to journal, to write poetry, and to write varieties of exhortations with the hopes that any person reading these things would come to Christ.  If they know Him, I desire that they would know Him even more, and if they do not know Him, I pray that they would be called into saving faith.  Jesus is my life and the cross is my only boast and glory. Anything that is not done through Him and for Him is a waste.  It is not worth my time, nor my thoughts, nor my efforts to waste away the precious seconds the Lord has given.

Ephesians 5:15-16 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
