I confess, I know next to nothing about blogging.  But I do love to write.  I love to journal, to write poetry, and to write varieties of exhortations with the hopes that any person reading these things would come to Christ.  If they know Him, I desire that they would know Him even more, and if they do not know Him, I pray that they would be called into saving faith.  Jesus is my life and the cross is my only boast and glory. Anything that is not done through Him and for Him is a waste.  It is not worth my time, nor my thoughts, nor my efforts to waste away the precious seconds the Lord has given.

Ephesians 5:15-16 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

As I wrote some years ago:

Soul, pant after his presence

As the tongue craves water in desert land

Avail thyself to the ecstasy

Of knowing Christ in his supremacy

Highest aim to love him with heart, mind, soul, and strength

Be it sapped all my tendencies to exert myself in other things

But Jesus: you are my all in all

With this breath I breathe for you my king

Be it far from me to bow before another

If I have not Jesus, I will have no other.

I pray it still: be it sapped all my tendencies to exert myself in other things!  I find in myself still so much labouring for that which does not satisfy.  Yet, praise God that He marvellously works to redeem my affections and that He “works in me both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).”

Here are some scriptures to show you why I have decided to call my blog “Come To Christ.”

Isaiah 55:1-3 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!  Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.  Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which does not satisfy?  Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.  Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live.”

John 6:27 “Do not labour for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.  For on him God the Father has set his seal.”

John 7:37 “On the last day of the feat, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

I’ll finish off this brief introduction to my blog with a poem that I pray may encourage you to draw near to Christ, to be cleansed of your sin and to have communion with Him.

My Pursuits So Frail, His So Furious

I prepare myself for Christ my King

Longing for Him with joy and trembling

I count the world and my own works as none

But vanity and flee

To cling closely to the cross

To wait and want after His Glory.

Toss away from me propriety

All rigidness and formality

The hindrance of man’s formulas

For seeking God, while lacking love.

But mark me with intensity

That in despair I’d thirst for thee

As if this be my last minute of breath

May I desire Him as though His absence meant death.

I would love to describe my soul’s panting as such

Yet in truth my pursuits so often lack much

So to the praise of His Glory instead I will boast

In the strength of Him who sought and found me

The Lord of Hosts.

I am weak; my heart is dull

But Christ claims my attention

He redeems my affections,

I find I have not strived at all

But grace He has given

To make known the things hidden

I do nothing but fall

Then He raises my head

To show forth His beauty

Shed by the light of His face

To me a stuttering wanderer standing

In His most Holy Place.

“Might I draw near?”

I ask my God

“Walk forth and I will run towards,”

“But thou art Holy and I a sinner”

“I have cleansed you and claimed you

Oh beloved, oh daughter

Both clothed you and named you

My darling my sister

My bride, I’ve been jealous

Oh spotless one, blameless one

For My Name’s sake I’m zealous.”

“Lord show me your Glory”

I ask, I quake, I cover my face

“The banquet is ready, come take your place.”

“With thee shall I dine?

But I am so lowly…”

“Thou art mine, my lovely one

Bought with a price

By the blood of my Son

A perfect sacrifice.

So now enter boldly

Into the Holy of Holies

Draw near with a pure heart

And I will not depart from you

I will not purge you of my presence

Come in assurance and pure conscience.”

“But what have I to offer thee?”

“Your dirty hands that I might cleanse thee.”

“I’m soar ashamed.”

“I’m glorified to take your sin and give you life.”

“I don’t deserve..”

“One breath, it’s true

But I honor my Son

Who was broken for you.”

“Will he wash away my stains?”

“He must.  This is His joy

For which He suffered much.”

Then I have none to offer You

But Your Son whom you have offered me

None who come to Him are ever refused

So into his refuge will I flee.”

“Come unto me, Behold me

There is joy everlasting

Once dead, my chosen are now rejoicing

In the land of the living

The blind are seeing

I am coming

The lame will be dancing

Prepare for me

Mourn now you will be comforted

Look for me, I come in clouds

Calling loud all my adopted

These, all my accepted ones

None will take these precious from My Son.”

Oh I love Jesus

Love Him dear

In tenderness and Holy fear,

Yet my love is as a flickering flame

Beside His ferocious adoration

Towards His children and His Name.
